One of the most important jobs of the Attorney General is to protect our children. That’s why, as Delaware’s top prosecutor, I convicted dozens of child abusers, murderers, and others who preyed on children. Under the leadership of Attorney General Matt Denn, I created the Child Victim Unit to investigate and prosecute child death and near-death cases across Delaware. Under Attorney General Beau Biden’s leadership, I secured legislation to strengthen child predator laws to further protect children from online predators. I was one of the first people to join Delaware’s Rape Unit, focused on increasing services to child rape victims. One of the great privileges of my career was working alongside Beau Biden to protect our children. Beau was a dedicated public servant who was fully committed to Delaware’s children. It is my goal to continue his legacy and protect children from adults who want to abuse them.
As Attorney General, I will:
- Vigorously prosecute child predators and abusers.
- Work with the Justice Department’s Family Division to ensure that the Division’s work is child-centered, sensitive and appropriate for the needs of child victims.
- Provide community education to share best practices for how we as communities can together safeguard our children.
- Ensure lines of communication are open between the community, police, and relevant professionals (teachers, health care professionals) so that we can work together to protect our children.
Throughout my career at the Department of Justice, I have worked relentlessly to protect our children from harm. I have worked directly with families, children, and victims of unimaginable crimes. We must do everything in our power to prevent these crimes from happening in the first place, but when they do, we must do everything we can to provide justice for these vulnerable victims. As Delaware’s Attorney General, I will ensure that the State works efficiently, cohesively and collaboratively to protect our children.
